We’re in the season of chilly eves and crunchy leaves. As the days are getting shorter and the temperature is getting lower, it’s got us thinking about preparing our homes for the autumn months. From your interiors to your cooking, below we’ve come up with our top tips for getting your home ready for autumn:

Add Warmth to Your Cooking

Everything revolves around warmth when preparing your home for the autumn months and that even includes your cooking. Summer is great for salads and BBQ’s but in autumn, we want warm food like: roast dinner, chilli, cottage pie, soup and stew. A slow cooker is a great investment as we get into the colder season; wake up, put everything into the slow cooker, go to work and when you come home your food will be ready to eat! Slow cookers range in prices but in general, they’re very affordable and you can get great ones for less than £20.

Bring in the Shades of the Autumn Months

Adding some seasonal shades to your home is a great way to get it ready for autumn. Where you can, introduce some reds, oranges and browns to make your home feel autumnal. A good way to do this is to add some soft furnishings in your chosen shades. Metallic colours such as bronze and copper can also make your home feel very autumnal; add some metallic decorations or ornaments.

You Can Never Have Enough Soft Furnishings

In autumn, the more soft furnishings the better. Layer up blankets and cushions on your sofa and bed to add some warmth to your interiors. Rugs will also make your home feel very snug, especially if you have wooden floors. Adding different textures and tones is an excellent way to add a cosy feel during the autumn months.

Get a Fireplace

The best way to bring warmth to your home and keep it feeling cosy during autumn is to get a fireplace. Whether your interiors are very traditional or have a more modern feel, there will be a fireplace for you. Open fireplaces are quite popular in traditional homes or you could opt for a gas or electric fireplace if your home is quite contemporary.
